Nottingham born, London-based label owner Adam Curtain this week releases the first solo material on his label Trouble Maker. Formed in 2016, previous releases include Bam Bam EP by new Fabric resident and Extra-Terrestrial compadre Bobby (formerly Bobby Pleasure).
Mr Miyagi EP contains all the ingredients for a heavy-hitting club tool of today; broken Techno, Electro and Garage ever-present in what we believe is up there with the best of 2019 so far! Early support on this one coming from Banoffee Pies, Krywald & Farrer, Bobby, Anna Wall and Midland.
Mr Curtain kicks things off with title track Mr Miyagi. A popular combo' of modern-electro-over-broken-drum-loops set the tone throughout but it’s the nifty vocal and underlying sub bass that shine through here, perfectly placed and 300% responsible for it’s early support in the club and "play it loud” demands at home. It’s no surprise it was premiered by UK electronic music platform Hyponik.
Fallen, premiered via french outlet La Chinerie, packs an equally effective punch but this time there’s no let up as the wobbly bass line slaps you into a permanent screw face. Bubbly bleeps and analog FM tuning subtlety transmit what’s nothing short of a peak time, “wonky club tool”.
Lastly, Gamma Ray substitutes electro 2’s and 4’s for a 2-step rhythm that just keeps on coming in 2019! No complaints here though as another distorted vocal, dial-tone-like bleeps and an acidic breakdown make for a powerful dance floor provider.
Despite being around for some time, dipping his toes into various club genres, Adam Curtain is growing into a seasoned sound supplier. With recent gigs for Fabric, Krankbrother and a label party at London’s party pub the Lion & Lamb, expect more to come from the midlands man in 2019.
