Top Tips | "Bandcamp Day" Picks
Updated: May 2
Despite the uncertainty surrounding many facets of the music industry at present, one thing that appears to be strong (alongside the creative livestream events) is the output of music coming from the community. The generosity of Bandcamp has certainly helped, as they waiver their fee revenue on the first Friday of each month, giving artists and imprints alike opportunity to maximise earnings, whilst fundraiser compilations do their bit for the NHS and get better and better as the weeks progress.
There's no doubt Covid-19 will have had a significant effect on the turn around times of vinyl releases launched pre-pandemic but it hasn’t necessarily halted the output; pre-orders continue to launch and forecast delivery times remain relatively stable. It appears those lucky enough to have a fully operating pressing plant can function as normal and have been able to designate more time to their project allowing for plans to take shape one or two releases ahead (depending on their personal circumstances).
Ultimately, now the dust has somewhat settled and as a country we are a little more realistic with our expectations as to how we over come the pandemic, it’s providing the creative freedom, time and in some cases, spare cash (usually weekend kitty) to focus on musical output as artist or input as consumer.
